DUNCAN EDWARDS FOUNDATION

The Duncan Edwards Foundation was officially launched in February 2018, 60 years after the Munich air crash claimed the life of Dudley's most famous son.  It was founded by Rose Cook-Monk, the award winning producer of "and then came Munich" a 55 minute documentary telling the tragic life of this incredible 21 year old footballing giant. The aim of the Foundation is to provide grants and bursaries for young people in the Black Country who have a great sporting ability but due to financial hardship and circumstance cannot afford their training, kit or travelling expenses.

The Foundation is run by a team of Trustees and Ambassadors, which include representatives from the media, local business people, head teachers and very proudly ex Wolverhampton Wanderers player Mel Eves, Commonwealth games medallist Ryan Bradley and their newly appointed patron, ex Manchester United player Lee Sharpe. Along with its great team, many planned events including the very first Duncan Edwards day on October 1st, the Foundation is also looking forward to the production of the play "keeping the dream alive" written by Rose to raise much needed funds for this very population organisation. Rose also provides guided tours of the 'Duncan Edwards Mile' showing the sights around the historical town of Dudley which is associated with Duncan's life. Duncan remains a very popular figure within Dudley and the Foundation is an enduring memorial to his name and the pride he had in Dudley.
