NOTICE: VE Day & VJ Day Veterans

The Royal British Legion have asked for my support in seeking WW2 Commonwealth Veterans to participate in special commemorations to celebrate VE Day and VJ Day this year.

I am contacting you as you may be aware, through your networks, of such veterans in the West Midlands.

If so,  I would be most grateful if you will inform them of the opportunities. Full details  may be found at https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/what-were-remembering-this-year   and application portal at  https://accreditation.britishlegion.org.uk/2020/?veremembrance or the RBL team may be contacted on 020 3053 7627. But in essence (from the RBL details) :

VE Day 75

National events marking VE 75 will take place across 9-10 May Bank holiday in London. Similar events are expected to be reflected in communities across the nation, as well as at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

The Legion will host 750 British and Commonwealth Veterans in London , each accompanied by a companion, to attend VE 75 Events. Our invitation includes fully funded transport, meals and accommodation; veterans will travel to London on Thursday 7 May 2020 and return home on Sunday 10 May 2020.

VJ Day 75

In partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League, the Legion will be funding tours for Far East Veterans in South and East Asia. For veterans wishing to stay in the UK, the Legion and the National Memorial Arboretum will host activities from 14-16 August, which will include a national service of Remembrance on 15 August. Travel and accommodation will be provided for all veterans wising to attend.

Please feel free to pass on this email as you wish.

Thank you for your assistance. I very much hope that we will achieve a good representation from all Veterans,  but particularly from Commonwealth Veterans, resident in the West Midlands.

If you are able to feed back to me the names of any Veterans who you have identified are participating, then that would be helpful.
