Character and Nature of the West Midlands area known since the mid nineteenth century as 'The Black Country'
Black Country Images
I took over the Black Country Society web site in early 2022 after the sudden death of the previous webmaster and thus there was no proper handover. The photos of the Black Country in the past in the galleries below were all uploaded to the website, but in most cases there was only brief details of what or who were depicted, and no information as to who was the photographer / contributor. If any visitor has any more information or can identify who should be acknowledged, I will gladly add this - please use the general enquiries form on the Contacts page.
The photos are arranged in three galleries - the first including photographs of Baggeridge Colliery, canals and cars; the second some photographs of Black Country folk and the third photographs of Black Country places, including Dudley Zoo. Click on a photo for larger copies and captions.
