Christmas cards and calendars

Currently Dudley Archives holds a small number of the Society Christmas Cards and Calendars as follows

Over Summer 2024 the following additional material will be deposited in Dudley Archives

  • 1973-2005 Black Country Calendar 1973. 1974, 1976-1999, 2001, 2005

First Day Covers and postcards

In the 1970s the Society produced a number of first day covers. These are held in Dudley Archives, and images of them have been placed on the web site.

 

  • 1970, First Day Cover - Reopening of the Titford Canal

  • 1972, First Day Cover - Aaron Manby. 1822-1972. (10 June 1972)

  • 1973, First Day Cover - The Wesley Riots, Wednesbury,1743- 1973 (20 October 1973)

  • 1973, First Day Cover - Wolverhampton Trolleybus Inauguration 50th Anniversary. 1923-1973

  • 1973, First Day Cover - Reopening of Dudley canal Tunnel

  • 1979, First Day Cover - The Agenoria, 1829-1979

 

Two sets of postcards were also produced around the same time.  These are again held in Dudley Archives, and images of them have been placed on the web site

Artefacts

In the 1970s and 1980s the Society commissioned a number of commemorative items as follows.

  • 1967 Medallion to commemorate the closure of Baggeridge Colliery

  • 1969 Medallion to commemorate 1769 to 1969 Canals and motorways

  • 1972 Medallion to commemorate 150th anniversary of sailing of SS Aaron Manby

  • 1976 Medallion to commemorate 200th anniversary of Bloomfield Colliery Engine

  • 1979 Goblet produced for the Society to mark the 150th Anniversary of the running of the Stourbridge Lion in the USA

  • 1980 Medallion to commemorate the closure of Blast Furnace "Elizabeth" at Bilston in 1976

Examples of the second and third of these are held in the Society Archive. Photographs of all of them are mounted on this web site and can be accessed using the button above.  In addition the Society Archive contains a number of other artefacts.
